I am a registered level one adult nurse with 30 years of experience in different fields of practice. I qualified in Poland in 1992 and worked as a nurse at couple of different specialities. Since the beginning of my practice, I have always been passionate about medical care and protecting the vulnerable from malpractice. As an experienced nurse with an A level in Biology, I have extensive knowledge regarding anatomy and physiology and about infection processes, I passed A Level at English and Mathematics as well (4 A level passed Polish, English, Mathematics and Chemistry). In my career, apart of practising nursing I worked for two years as special need teacher for children from disadvantage backgrounds, as I qualified with MSc in Special Pedagogy in year 2000. Very shortly after I started my career as a nurse, I applied for PIN number in England. My dream was to practice for NHS, in my opinion, one of the best and safest public care system in the world. I came to England in 2006 and I started to work as a staff nurse in 2009. My experience was already broad. In Poland, I already achieved the high professionalism in many aspects of nursing. (Acute Medical Ward with CCU unit, underpinned by psychiatric nursing and evolved to the highly specialized haemodialysis and eventually ophthalmic scrub nursing.) In 2009 I got the job at the Eye Clinic Hull, as an ophthalmic nursing was one of my strongest and favourite. Since 2009 I went through the major change and adaptation period, which was not easy, but I can say it was worth it. (Being proud of the professionalism, I have achieved) In 2016 I have become an ophthalmic nurse specialist after completing the course ''Ophthalmic Nursing theory and practice''. My presentation touched important problem as HIV. The dissertation was on infection control topics. I have written the study about the patient with endophthalmitis after insertion of the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve. I had an incredibly positive academic opinion regarding this piece of writing. 2017 I went to University of Hull and started self-funded MSc in Advanced Practice. At that time, I was already an employee of York Hospital Trust, working as an Ophthalmic Specialist Nurse and I was sharing my duties between Eye Theatres and Eye Emergency Clinic. I had started my course at university with the managers support but unfortunately Ophthalmology at NHS came to different direction. Advanced skills are expected to be presented by optometrist rather than nurses. At this point support from management was withdrawn. I took this as experience and a milestone for future learning, as I managed to learn a lot. In total, I managed to complete 3 modules and achieved 40 credits at level 7.As an Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner, on the day-to-day basis I used to triage ophthalmic emergency patients, booking the appointments, ordering the tests and initiate emergency treatment. I was working under supervision of Ophthalmic Consultant and dealt successfully with bigger MDT. I had to use my own initiative and personal judgment, and work with no or minimal supervision. I was involved in creating policies and protocols. (for example New FFA angiography protocol and new counting of instruments policy) My practical skills include all required skills at this job description confirmed by local competency assessment. (not trained only at the arterial gas) plus I possess the skills which could be useful at ED majors and could benefit patient journey-not need of further referral, no need for expensive investigation methods ( Visual Acuity checking, Intraocular pressure checking, examination of anterior segment of the eye on the slit lamp, OCT examination, removal of FB from the surface, advice regarding ophthalmic condition, education regarding drops installation ect.) At the Eye Clinic, I was as well, a cannula and iv facilitator, and I was putting a big effort to train staff in the right manner. On every step, I have emphasized the importance of the simple steps to prevent infection. I have been involved in the patient's education regarding safety around eye injection and eye operation. Since 2016, I have been caring for the position of ANTT assessor and Infection Control Link Nurse. At Eye theatre I mentored and trained many of scrub nurses to a best possible standard with understanding of complex speciality. I have created, as well, a couple of tools and implemented them between my team. I have highly positive opinions regarding my ANTT teaching skills and scrub mentoring skills. I have attended 2019 The Annual ANTT conference in London. I brought many of the interesting lectures and materials back and redistributed them between staff. I am especially involved in creating and maintaining the correct environment to optimize patient care. I demonstrate awareness of resource management and ensure the effective use of resources. I am devoted to service improvement, and I managed to put some personal touch to it. I improved the efficiency of ophthalmic surgeries by creating a reasonable system of storage-related instruments. I have excellent opinion about my surgical assisting skills from all surgeons I used to work with. I am always enthusiastic, approachable, and hard-working person. Since 2020 June I have started to help in ED department at Scarborough and York. I have fall in love with the speed of decision making and team cooperation at ED SGH and said yes, when one of the senior sisters asked, if I would like to have a permanent job at ED. Since 3rd of May, I am proud to be a full time ED SGH member and I love it. I have positive opinion regarding my professionalism and competence so far. Regarding my personal attributes; . I always have been a forward thinker. At the previous positions, many times I was acting as a person in charge asked by managers in the case of their absence. I had positive comments regarding my management skills. I was actively involved in the implementation of new safety processes (new theatre pathway and new strict counting policy) I can accommodate a change quickly and in a calm manner. I have an exceptionally good response regarding my professionalism and empathy from patients and my colleagues. I am a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with the ability to motivate people and empower them to make decisions. I am strong and assertive, and I managed to prove it many times when I was left in charge.
