Determination of The Rise and Depth of Oil Spillage. A study of Baruwa Area of Ipaja, Lagos, Nigeria. Bachelor of Science Thesis, May 2014.
Explanation: The research was carried out in environmental geophysics by using physics applications to carry out geophysical investigations.
Electrical resistivity surveys were carried out in an area with hydrocarbon contamination in the Abesan area of Baruwa in the Ipaja local government area of Lagos, Nigeria. The research was aimed at evaluating the depth of the hydrocarbons in the subsurface and the groundwater quality of the area ten years after the spillage. The geophysical investigation involved the Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) technique using the Schlumberger configuration and horizontal profiling.
The data collected from the ten locations in the area were analyzed. The generated profiles of the acquired data helped map the contaminant plume, which was delineated as an area of high-interpreted resistivities
